When I got my start promoting, my first year as acting president at a track, a man from a touring series, had a heart attack and died, while he was hot lapping. It catapulted the car in a horrific looking crash. He was dead. The media and people foreign to the occurrence looked to assign blame to improper places. Only until facts came out later did everyone know how the events should be explained. They poured over our website, our rules, our policies and the track personnel. They questioned procedures.It was a heart wrenching crushing experience for the track, its race club and the drivers and fans that saw it. Only tony Stewart and the young man who passed away knew what each of their own intents were. The media hype and speculation, and speculation by non experts, are nothing more than fodder. Its a disservice to the sport. Its a horrendous occurrence amplified by mass speculation. Its sickening, just a amplification of tragedy that cannot be changed.
