When I grow up, I want to become a journalist. Thats why I come to school. explains 11 year old Shagor. Shagor has-been a student for the past seven months at The Good Sheppard School. Its an inner-city slum school created and fully funded by me thanks to Nerdfighter support and The Project for Awesome. I asked Shagor where he went before this school was created. He explained that he used to go to a slum school created by a big name NGO funded by a well known international billionaire. But he was kicked out. Why? Because he was caught in bureaucratic limbo when he briefly returned to his familys village outside of the city. He also pulled his younger sister out from that school when he saw that the teachers at that school were mistreating his sister and scolding her a lot. He (and many other students who left that NGO school) struggled to raise the 100 taka (per student, per month) required to stay in the school. But, thanks to you guys, Shagor and his sister are able to study here. For free. And get free food. And free school gear.
