When I had the vision that was realized in the final form of Digital Outsider it was simple enough, though the simplicity in formulation would turn out to be very misleading, my ideas was to use webpage construction methods to build a completely virtual exhibit of a unique and original virtual collection of virtual artworks, that is, art that exists entirely, natively within the digital display format of a webpage... I set out on what became a roughly seven year quest to realize this vision while having, upon beginning the work, not a single idea of how to approach either web design or digital imaging... Really I was motivated by the fundamentally beautiful sounding idea of creating a single digital art object in the form of a webpage formatted virtual art exhibit displaying unique original webpage formatted digital artworks all created together and in tandem... The processes following the ideas inception were arduous and at times overwhelmingly difficult. I was faced with a host of problems in two areas of which I was entirely ignorant, namely website design and digital imaging... the project was hard to explain and justify to others, especially in the first few years when digital imaging was not yet widely considered legitimate artwork and a great deal off my time interacting with online communities was spent defending using the word art in relation to my images... In the end I succeeded and digitaloutsider is exactly what I envisioned it should be and more... Five hundred individual works spanning a complete online exhibition in webpage format...
