When I hear about families being wiped out financially due to - TopicsExpress

When I hear about families being wiped out financially due to illness its very difficult. As a student I studied and worked in London. I had a work permit and paid British taxes. One day I was very ill and my flatmates hired a cab to take me to the empty hospital-only one person was in the waiting room at the ER. When I was ready to check out I was dreading the bill. I approached the front desk to get it and when I asked the lady she said, You are all set. No bill. We have you in our National Healthcare system-anyone paying taxes belongs. I paid 6 pounds ($4 US dollars) per paycheck for national healthcare-which was income based. After that my immediate followup appointments to the local doctor were wonderful. There was only one or two other people in the waiting room each time I visited. I was given great care. My doctor was actually in a cute cottage three blocks behind my flat.Medicine was affordable. You see people who have National Healthcare get the big picture. They dont want to see their neighbors lose homes or not be able to eat to buy medicine. They dont want sick people walking around coughing on everyone-spreading illness. They believe in looking out for the the good and health of all. When the entire population has access to healthcare-everyone is healthier, everyone pitches in and everyone benefits. I got great care in England-their culture sees it as a the civilized thing a society should do.
