When I heard the news that Robin Williams passed away on August - TopicsExpress

When I heard the news that Robin Williams passed away on August 11, 2014, I couldnt help but grieve. Even though I never had the pleasure of meeting Robin Williams, he has had such a profound impact on my life. I felt sadness and loss for an inspirational human being who touched the lives of so many and made the world a happier place, all while he was struggling with his own internal demons. I was first introduced to Robin Williams through the Disney classic, Aladdin (1992). Could there be a more perfect role for him? While the world is divided whether the Merchant from the beginning of the movie is actually the Genie (I am convinced he is), no one can deny these words of wisdom: Do not be fooled by its common place appearance. Like so many things, it is not what is outside, but what is inside that counts. I remember watching Patch Adams (1998) a few years later. It may not be universally loved, but this film taught us a great deal about humanity: A doctors mission should be not just to prevent death... but also to improve the quality of life. Thats why you treat a disease, you win, you lose. You treat a person, I guarantee you, you win, no matter what the outcome. And who could forget any of these great words of wisdom? All you have to do is think one happy thought, and you’ll fly like me. - Hook (1991) You’ll have bad times, but it’ll always wake you up to the good stuff you werent paying attention to. - Good Will Hunting (1997) Crying never helped anybody do anything, okay? You have a problem you face it like a man. - Jumanji (1995) I dont even know where to begin with Dead Poets Society (1989). What can you really say other than this film inspired an entire generation. This film is packed with words of inspiration that well never forget. Here are just two: ...Carpe...Carpe Diem. Seize the day, boys. Make your lives extraordinary. Theres a time for daring and theres a time for caution, and a wise man understands which is called for. With a film career spanning almost four decades, its easy to pick out amazing quotes from his impressive filmography, but here are a few quotes of his own: ...And there is still a lot to learn and there is always great stuff out there. Even mistakes can be wonderful. “You’re only given one little spark of madness. You mustnt lose it.” “No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world.” But what is more fitting than the graduation scene from Jack (1996)? I dont have very much time these days so Ill make it quick. Like my life. You know, as we come to the end of this phase of our life, we find ourselves trying to remember the good times and trying to forget the bad times, and we find ourselves thinking about the future. We start to worry , thinking, What am I gonna do? Where am I gonna be in ten years? But I say to you, Hey, look at me! Please, dont worry so much. Because in the end, none of us have very long on this Earth. Life is fleeting. And if youre ever distressed, cast your eyes to the summer sky when the stars are strung across the velvety night. And when a shooting star streaks through the blackness, turning night into day... make a wish and think of me. Make your life spectacular. I know I did. I made it, Mom. Im a grown up. Rest in peace, Robin. Well love and miss you forever.
