When I interned at CPS, I never felt the anger towards abusive bio parents that I did for foster parents because how could WE allow our trained protectors to hurt OUR babies? Also, I always thought that tribal babies went to boarding schools because missionaries and extreme poverty convinced their parents to send them. I recently found out that the police and even soldiers were often sent to forcibly remove children from Native families to fill up these schools and that you can visit a mass grave for OUR BABIES right over in Mt Pleasant. We need CPS and we need police, and it is overwhelming to think of solutions to this mess as exemplified in ferguson, but these are OUR BABIES and the people and systems WE establish to protect them must be changed by US.
