When I lived in Canada, very near the birthplace of John McCrae, - TopicsExpress

When I lived in Canada, very near the birthplace of John McCrae, the soldier/poet who wrote, In Flanders field the poppies grow... I had no problem wearing the poppy with pride each year for Remembrance Day. Here, its symbolism has been extended along with its season well beyond the point of mutual acceptance. I buy a poppy when the British Legion women call to the door, but it remains on the mantlepiece. Pity, because I remember my Dad wearing a poppy, but only on November 11 each year. He told me he did so out of respect for those who died and those who mourned them. Lest we forget.
