When I loved you, Not even my poetry would soften your heart. Words mined from deep within, Never moved you. You saw them as minor entertainment, Worth only fleeting attention. When I loved you, My calls and texts went ignored, Remembered only when you were in need, Knowing that I was too ready to drop everything, And attend to the flimsiest of your whims. I knew you were using me, But I was hopeful that someday, You would feel for me what I felt for you. When I loved you, You were busy dating other men, Saying that I wasnt trying hard enough, And that I had no game. And when you loved me, Time had healed the wounds of rejection, I had seen the sun rise over Eden, And my Eve wake up next to me, With all the splendour that the Creator could Bestow upon a woman. Suddenly, you found worth in me, Suddenly, I was no bore, Suddenly, the knowledge dawned that Long after the adrenaline dies, Only longevity makes sense. And some bonds, like glass, once broken, Can never be mended.
