When I moved to Bay Ridge, Brooklyn back in 1999 it was for two very big reasons. The first, of course, was Samoa. But the second was the beautiful Verrazano-Narrows bridge that is such an iconic presence in the neighborhood. It rises like a mountain from the windows of my home and is a towering landmark from just about any part of Bay Ridge. And I’m delighted to wish my favorite bridge, the longest suspension bridge in America, a Happy 50th Anniversary today! I think the Zurich-trained Swiss designer of the bridge, Othmar Amman, described it best, “An enormous object drawn as faintly as possible.” Here are some of my favorite photographs I’ve taken of the bridge, including some from the birthday celebration this morning. #VerrazanoBridge,#50thAnniversary,#HappyBirthday
