When I posted my blue colour nasi lemak in my Group, one lady - TopicsExpress

When I posted my blue colour nasi lemak in my Group, one lady commented: The nasi lemak has to be white. In the Peranakan culture, nasi lemak is served to the brides family on the 12th day after wedding. It has a message and symbolic colour. To make it blue, shows lack of knowledge. White grains signify the purity of the bride. The grooms side pleasure to serve. My answer to her: I have no knowledge lah ! I only make for fun only ... I am not Peranakan and do not tell me nasi lemak belong to peranakan ...Dont claim every dish to be peranakan ... How about our malay brothers ? Is bunga Telang owned by peranakan ? Dont claim a cuisine to be owned by a certain race !!!!! Food history evolved over time. How about nasi uduk that is like nasi lemak but coloured by purple sweet potatoes ? When ever I thought of nasi lemak, I always think that it is a malay cuisine and never a peranakan cuisine ... May be I am wrong . Whoever cuisine it is is ok , we live in a multi racial country and we respect each other and eat each others cuisine .. This is kelantan nasi kerabu concept ... It is blueish rice. I borrow the concept. I did learnt something from her but I do not think that is right for her to assume that such dish belong to peranakan! We come from a multicultural background, be sensitive of other races cuisines.. All the food have intermingled throughout these historical years.. We should learn how to respect each other . I heard some Nonya Yam kuih that have ketumbar powder even though the normal chinese version never have coriander powder.. is it not a disrespect to the peranakan community if I insisted that yam kuih should not have this? I definitely wouldnt do that because I respect a cuisine as it is. My humble grumbling !!
