When I see Muslims coming to me saying, Shaykh Naeem, Im going to a protest to save the planet, to protest for curbing climate change...for protesting against anthropogenic induced mass extinctions...to protest for a future for our species and all other species on this planet...then I will know that Muslims have seen beyond their own chauvinistic and self-centered little worlds and tribalisms and have embraced a truly prophetic vision. For then I will see that it will not be just justice for one group, but for all, that is being sought, that true balance and equitableness is the desire of the people whose claim to ownership of prophetic truths and heavenly communications is at the heart of their hearts. When I see Muslims of affluence and ease consciously making choices to take what they need and leave the rest behind living that kind of life style, individually and collectively working to make fundamental and paradigmatic shifts in how they view the good life so that their individual and collective imprints on the now weigh so heavily on them that the tomorrows of their childrens and childrens childrens lives are of greater and weightier immediacy than their own selfish-nows, it is then that perhaps I will have lived and witnessed prophetic excellence, grace and beauty.
