When I speak of quality of employment we need ways to compare and contrast. The Broadbent Institute has done just that in the link below for Brantford. When adjusted into 2012 dollars to make up for the 11% increase in the costs of goods from 2006-2012 we see that the median income for Brantford has actually decreased by 2.6%. For the country as a whole its increased modestly by about 3.5%. Thats why many are feeling the pinch. Consumer prices are up 11.63%. Median income in our community is down 2.6%. So its 14.2% less affordable to live in our community after the economic recovery than it was before. Its why I push on issues of affordability though folks from other parties mock me for it. Its why Im steadfast on pushing back against temporary and precarious work, its why I like a Federal $15 an hour minimum wage and $15 dollar a day child care or access to OAS and an increase in funding to seniors who are living in poverty. Its because every dollar counts for many in Brantford-Brant.
