When I started fire fighting in 1985, as a seasonal I was told we were not elgible for certain benefits if I was to perish on duty. I understood because I was a seasonal worker. The Prineville, OR Hotshots never got their benefit when some of their crew perish. Many firefighters and smoke jumpers that perished never got their benefits in the past. They told ne that there is a $5000 benefit when one perish while on duty. This may turn ugly in Prescott and I get this feeling that it may end up in the courtrooms. This may change the way we fight fires in the future.
