When I started running for the Legislature in 2008 supporters - TopicsExpress

When I started running for the Legislature in 2008 supporters arranged focus groups with Republicans, Democrats and independents. One prominent Green Valley Republican spoke to me about raising the Highway User Revenue Fund (HURF) gas tax as a way of fixing and maintaining transportation infrastructure (roads, bridges, etc.) not to mention job creation and the positive effects on economic development. When I shared his comments on the campaign trail, I was branded a tax and spend Democrat and I lost by 3% in LD 30 which had a 13% Republican advantage. Chuck Huckelberry makes many good points in this article gvnews/opinion/columns/gas-tax-increase-will-get-our-roads-in-shape/article_bea045c8-4eff-11e3-b82a-0019bb2963f4.html. My question is will the leaders of the GOP led legislature even give this issue even a committee hearing? What do you think? Keep HURF the same? Increase HURF?
