When I started work on The Undying King for my old publisher, I had a very specific image of my hero influenced by Gerald Broms interpretation of Elric of Melnibone. When Hellboy 2 came out, I nearly had a coronary after seeing the first trailer. The antihero/villain in this film, Prince Nuada, was that image come to life. I can only speculate that maybe, just maybe, Del Toro liked Broms Elric as well and used it as a baseline for Nuada. Hellboy 2 is still a favorite film of mine. Not only for the villain but also for Ron Perlman (Hellboy), who is a brilliant actor in any role he takes.
