When I think of a relaxed, party-like atmosphere and 78ers, I reflect upon the late Ken Crawford Jr., of Pittsburgh. Born in 1925, he started his collection in 1932, at the age 7, when records were worse than worthless, and the music of the 20s and 30s was always his passion. There was no one Ken didnt have a goodnatured and/or slightly racy joke for, and he was at home buying the drinks as he was spinning his, or your, platters, and sharing knowledge. Besides platters, his collections of jazz on film and electrical transcriptions were unexcelled. If you attended IAJRC from 1964 onwards, you knew him, as he was a charter member of that outfit. He also had a finger in the New York Record Research Syndicate, as hed lived there in the 50s and 60s, before returning to the Burgh. He also started Collectors Bash in central NJ. I dont have a pic of Ken, but here is my copy of a Joe Haymes record which used to be his. Haymes was his particular favorite, and mine.
