When I train someone for strength peaking (a single domain unlike sports training which is a multitude of considerations and more complex), I put them through phases. Deep offseason work is strictly bodybuilding style. We gain size, add muscle and hit the muscle from a variety of angles like a bodybuilder would. Why? I dont care about weak points when we build muscle, I care about building muscle and the weak point training comes during the next phase when we have an opportunity to put more weight on the bar and build strength. Weakpoint training is dependent on form videos and feedback. Are they leaning forward in the squat? How fast are they pulling from the floor? Where do they need work the most when increasing their bench? This phase sets up the peaking phase correctly when assistance work is dialed back some to focus on the Big 3 lifts. Andrew Cuenco is following the plan to a letter and he is reaping the rewards of it so far. If you have a coach who knows what they are doing, listen to them, trust the process and give them honest feedback. Honesty is the KEY on both ends, without doing that you will not have success.
