When I was 15 years old I was man handle, hand cuffed and almost pepper spayed by the Ottawa police. What was my crime you ask? Shopping in Eatons for a dress to attend a church convention. And no I most definitely did not steal anything from the store. I have never committed a crime, but I am always nervous and scared when I get pulled over by the police for whatever dumb reason. I am a hard working person. But ever time I have an encounter with a police officer I am treated like some low life criminal. For what an expired sticker? Then given the maximum penalty. They are always rude and disrespectful and there is literally nothing you can do about it except sit there and take the abuse. I am so fed up with these ignorant trigger happy high strung police. Who clearly has nothing better to do than to harass hard working people. Dear Ottawa Police Offices. Protectors of members of the public, crime preventers, the ones who are suppose to reduce crimes and improve the quality of life. Why is it that the only time I dont feel safe is when I have an encounter with you? I am more than just a black face. I am a person with a job and a family. A person that have good days and bad. So next time you are bored or need to make quota for the month. Remember what your duties are and treat people the way you would want to be treated. I hope if that day comes when I actually need your help you will be there with the same enthusiasm.
