When I was 16 I joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary - TopicsExpress

When I was 16 I joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary under my grandpas military service during the Korean War. I served as President of the Auxiliary 3 times, chaired many programs that helped the community and veterans, planned events such as the POW/MIA Awareness Day Program, Hospital events planning Bingo days at the VA in Danville and donations drives for Christmas, attending many funerals with military rites as well as funeral dinners for the families, cooking and serving Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for many years, and numerous fundraisers to support our programs. And in doing all of that I realized the following: 1) These programs need and deserve everyones support. 2) The Veterans need and deserve everyones support. 3) Their spouses and kids deserve a huge thank you for the support the veterans have at home. 4) Contrary to popular belief, these groups arent just bars. 5)And Ive never had the chills or fought the urge to cry as I did the day that I was in a room filled with veterans who were singing God Bless the USA. The freedoms they have fought for are taken for granted every day by us. But even in speaking to a Marine who almost lost his life, lost 3 of his friends, and his own leg and eye, he knew he belonged there and would go back again. Dont forget why you have your freedoms and thank a Vet! Happy Veterans Day!! youtu.be/IBPKTGr_2T0
