When I was a child, I was intensely jealous of my city cousins, - TopicsExpress

When I was a child, I was intensely jealous of my city cousins, Cindy and Dana Smith of Savannah, because they got to perform in a production of The Nutcracker each year. I took dance from the fabled Marilyn Youmans, also of Savannah, but her Claxton students were not part of anything so ambitious. Anyhow, I never got to be a snowflake or a flower or a sugarplum in that context, but I have gotten to participate in something even better the past two Christmas seasons. Avery performed the role of a cherub in the ballet this afternoon with the Statesboro School of Dance at the GSU Performing Arts Center. The production was such a beautiful holiday treat. Papa Joe was kind enough to provide some comic relief in between slack-jawed catnaps with priceless color commentary, as well. He took music appreciation at college because speech was his other option, and the only title he remembers is the Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy from The Nutcracker. Sadly, it did him little good since he asked at the beginning of each piece, Is that it?
