When I was a kid, I looked up to men in the NFL like Roger - TopicsExpress

When I was a kid, I looked up to men in the NFL like Roger Staubach, Tony Dorsett, Terry Bradshaw, Too Tall Jones, Randy White, Joe Theismann, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Tom Landry, Mike Ditka, Morton Andersen, Emmitt Smith and quite a few others. I know that there were men in the NFL that committed crimes (some even got away with them Im sure) but I distinctly remember the storyof when Rafael Septien was called into Tom Landrys office and confronted about the accusations against him which he admitted to Coach Landry. Tom kicked him off the team on the spot and no other team would touch him. Today, we just ignore a players sins if theyre a good enough performer on the field. We value yards gained, tackles made, and points scored over the value of a woman. The NFL makes a Christian turn his Know Jesus, Know Peace, No Jesus, No Peace t-shirt inside out because they dont want to offend people who dont believe in Christ yet we allow a man that ran a dog fighting ring to be a quarterback. They send the message that money, ratings and scores are more important than women, children, family and even pets. Im throwing the bull shit flag. The NFL has lost a lot of its appeal to me in recent years but the past few weeks may be enough for me to wash my hands of them completely. Kelley would really like to see the Saints play and Ill find a way to make that happen in spite of my opinion but I just feel like the air has gone from the balloon. The NFL stands for nothing and Im ashamed of them for it. I only wish America were ashamed of this sort of behavior as well...and not only in the NFL but in every corner of our society. It just feels that weve lost our way as a nation when you see this.
