When I was a kid comic books cost 10 cents and they contained at least one complete story and possible more. Several of the comics had about a third of the pages dedicated to stories about characters who didnt have a title of their own: Green Arrow (now just Arrow on TV) and Aquaman were among them. That didn deem fair because both Batman and Superman had multiple titles and Superman also appeared in titles dedicated to Lois Lane And Jimmy Olsen. Along came Marvel comics. At first, they also had one story per book and, in some cases, more than one character shared a book. Then, everything changed: Marvel instituted continued stories. It was a dark day for me; I hated the concept. You had to pay careful attention or you might miss an issue and keeping track of what everyone was up to became a chore. I was collecting 15 different comics and before long they were ALL featuring continuing stories.. Looking back, I realize that format gave the writers the opportunity to stretch out and put more into story, but I still hated it. Thats about the time I gave up on comics. Im was same way about TV. I preferred stories to be wrapped up in one episode and on to something new. The reason was the same: invariably I would miss a couple of episodes in a continuing story and be left in the dark. Lately, however, I have discovered the joys of binge watching. I watched Heroes that way, I watched Breaking Bad that way and now Im working on Gilmore Girls. The joy of watching a series from the first episode through the last in just a few days is incredible. At last, I am content.
