When I was a kid, the canal that runs north and south through - TopicsExpress

When I was a kid, the canal that runs north and south through Wichita used to have an occasional Softshell Turtle this size in it. I caught one by hand once. When they get this size, they arent very friendly. ;) That was back in the 1960s before they built I-135 and concreted the canal. The fish and animals dont come up from the Arkansas River in it like they used to (Its too shallow through the city and the water is probably too warm for the large fish). (Carp used to migrate up it every spring to spawn - like Salmon - and Snapping Turtles and Softshell would come up it.) But Chisholm Creek (named after Jesse Chisholm), up north that runs into the canal, still has some nice Bass and Catfish in it.
