When I was a kid we lived on the far East side (at that time) of Tucson. On Halloween one year we (my brother David Hemmo and our friends) crossed a patch of desert to a better candy neighborhood. The loot was good and we came upon a house that was throwing a party (a non drinking party). Lots of food and music. They asked us if we were from the neighborhood. We said we crossed the desert to trick or treat. The party throwers knew one of our group and asked us if they could call our parents and if it was ok, we could stay and eat and celebrate. We had a wonderful time. I recall the best home made venison jerky, hot dogs and a kind family who invited us in. I always think of this story on Halloween. I hope that everyone is safe tonight. I also hope we all make a wonderful memory.
