When I was a young girl growing up in Columbus we lived above my fathers business in an apartment. We didnt even have a yard and yet I dreamed of horses. My mom swears it was a birth defect. Through the gracious efforts of several family friends (as well as my family) would head over to the Ohio State Fairgrounds for every horse show. River Ridge. Morgan Gold Cup. The Ohio State Fair. The Quarter Horse Congress. Here I sit tonight at that same fairgrounds 45 plus years later still watching horses going. I loved the smell of the barns, the snort and blow of the saddlebreds and hackneys. I could drift into another world listening to the scotch bottom shoes and the musical melodies of a draft horse four up harness. Is there anything more elegant than a cob tail hooked to a sparkling viceroy ? Although my love is the standardbred trotter I can appreciate the love and dedication that we all share for these magnificent animals. Even the gate at the entrance to my farm is copied from the original gates at Scioto Downs. My dream was always to live in a house that you could see pastures and horses from every window. I have that today. My love for the horse was nurtured by many. If I can ask my horse loving peeps out there to do one thing it would be to share your love, spend time with the kid that has no horse, no money but has a dream. Its been an amazing ride so far... Cant wait to see where my next horse takes me.
