When I was about five, I had a neighborhood friend that went by the nickname, Skipper. Ive had this vague memory for years but I remember him telling me about a new movie about people that get attacked when they go in the water. Like Jaws but over the years I knew it wasnt Jaws. I do remember the trailer coming on TV and Skipper told me that was the scary movie he was talking about but I never remembered the title. For a while I thought it was Piranha but that wasnt it either. So last night I was watching Machete Maidens on Netflix, a documentary about the cheap filmmaking possibilities in the Philippines during the late 60s through the early 80s. They played a trailer for a movie called Up From the Depths and now 35 years later I finally know what that movie was. I looked it up on IMDb and the release date was June of 1979 so that fits spot on with the time period and memories.
