When I was asked by Kristen Cates who I might nominate as MY Hometown Hero...I immediately (like the FIRST person I thought of) thought of Dr. Martin. After three years...he has become more than our doctor, hes become our family. Hes walked me through unimaginable ups and downs...laughed, cried, and stood with me through life and death and LIFE. And Johnny loved him...because he didnt just give care, he cared...a lot. Two days from today Ill be seeing December 26 (the day John was admitted to Hospice) on the calendar...Dr. Martin was there then, and for 19 days held onto my breaking heart as I let go of my best friends hand. So much has changed in a year...but one thing hasnt; no doubt Dr. Martin is standing with another family as they navigate the same road weve walked and been able to survive because of his unwavering love and support. Merry Christmas to my Hometown Hero...and to his BEAUTIFUL wife and family who sacrifice their time with him, so he can spend time with families like mine. We love you. Xoox-Schelli
