When I was discharged from hospital three weeks ago they gave me - TopicsExpress

When I was discharged from hospital three weeks ago they gave me an appointment letter for a follow-up check; the appointment was Tuesday. I was called into someone’s office where the other person introduced herself as “Jane, one of the surgeons here,” (Jane wasn’t her real name) and asked what she could do for me. I pointed out that I had come as a result of an appointment the hospital had made, and asked why it wasn’t in my file (a paper file, which she had open on the desk.) She said that the last entry in the file was dated last November, and was about getting me onto the waiting list for a Hartmann’s reversal. I explained that that had been done elsewhere in April, and that I’d been admitted at the end of May with pancreatitis, and they’d performed a cholecystectomy while I was there. She asked me which surgeon had done that (I didn’t know.) I asked whether there was more to my file, and she left for a few minutes, then came back empty-handed. She examined my abdomen and the surgery scars, then someone else came in with another part of my file; she opened this one and found the more recent stuff, including the report of the cholesystectomy. When she looked at that, she said (in a surprised voice,) “Oh, I did the surgery!” The most bizarre medical appointment I’ve ever attended (actually, with her medical advice (including that I should "suck on a lemon") it went beyond bizarre and into surreal.)
