When I was eventing, I apprenticed with an experienced eventer. One thing she drove into me was, Read the Rule Book. It is the competitors responsibility to know the rules (not the steward, not the coach; after all, if you dont follow the rules, youre the one who will be eliminated, not them). So, its been a habit of mine, even though I havent been showing in the last few years, to know the rule books put out by my country and my local show-organizing body. When I have a question about rules, I look there first. Is this just incredibly quirky, or is it something that all competitors should be in the habit of doing?
