When I was growing up, I did have at least some positive associations with the words Allah-u-Akbar, like in the musicality of the adhaan (prayer call) echoing through the city of Riyadh five times a day, or the whispered recitation of it by smiling parents at the birth of their child. Now, every time most people (including me) hear those words, they know someones head is about to get chopped off, or someones about to blow themselves up in a crowd, or someones trying to rile up support for some sort of violent jihadist cause somewhere. It has almost become a verb -- as in: Steven Sotloff was Allah-u-Akbared by ISIS today. These fundamentalists and Quranic purists have officially become the voice of Islam. Moderates and progressives have failed badly. - Ali A. Rizvi https://facebook/ali.a.rizvi?fref=nf ~Shaz
