When I was leaving last week, Ann Marie Zeller contacted me and gave me the heads up regarding Snow Bowls request for a 20 year lease to the City of Flagstaff.. I was thinking about it, wondering what is in-store for all the people in contention with the owners, many blessed people have been working endlessly in an attempt to save our mountain, a crusade to preserve the environment in and around one of the Navajo Four Sacred Mountains. This mountain is St. Humphreys Peak in Flagstaff, Northern Arizona. My whole family decided to go up and check it out, we found the resort, paid to ride up the ski-lift to the top of the mountain. I wanted to see for myself, what the top of that mountain was like, as a tourist sees it, and experience it for myself. It was the first time I ever made an attempt to venture up there, I was excited, wanting to get up there and prey for my both my daughters, Tana Yazzie Tallsalt and Breaux Somer Chissie, because it was a very special time in their lives. lol Well, we paid quite a bit, sat on the lift for 30 minutes up, slowly moving as we were able to observes from above, the beautiful scenery in the valley below. I was with my mom, and my kids were in front of us. When we arrived at the top, elevation was about 10,000 ft above sea level, we were tossed off the seat and FORCED to make the trek about 2 miles to and from, to the top. I thought my heart was going to pop out of my chest, had to keep resting, finally making it up to about 12,000 feet. lol That was a long way for me, we met everyone up at the top. It was a good feeling, a different energy, very good vibrations as I prayed with my daughter, and stretched her to the heavens, blessed her with prayer, and shared the moment. We stayed there for a moment, didnt really have much but tables, jug of water, and constant movement of people from all walks of life. I watched everyone, observed, wanting to see everyone elses purpose. No one did anything, really. They just looked down, then got back on the ski lift to go back down, we really didnt see much, well except a beautiful valley below. As we sat in the car, we talked about everything, looked around and observed the scenery. No one did anything but ride up there and came back down, I guess I would appreciate it if I could ski. I just thought to myself, that is an awful lot of trees they cut down to create the ski lift, more trees were sacrificed to make the trails down the side of the mountain, A LOT MORE TREES. These trees were just cut and left there, the mountain is to steep to hike down in some parts, they cant move them. The original plants are now endangered because they grow in frigid weather, and only on glaciers, they are these beautiful yellow flowers that you used to see for miles and miles before they cut all the trees down. The grass should be a very green, as they were surrounded by beautiful, tall Aspens and various evergreens, like Cedar and Blue Spruce, but the grass appears to be a dingy greyish color, possibly the affects of reclaimed water on the slopes and throughout the lower portion of the mountain. I wasnt able to get pictures, but Valencia did, so I will try to post some. I never saw a purpose for this, in my mind I am thinking that is a lot of trees, and big changes in the environments ecosystem. We observed a fawn just born, all the while people constantly moving above, the mama and her twin babies below. Trash scattered throughout the trail below, personal items lost by people who dropped them, candy wrappers, bottles, jackets, jewelry, shoes, randomly scattered, yeah it was pretty but it was for nothing. I am just grateful I had a purpose being up there, happy my prayers were closer to God, blessed my family with a rare opportunity to offer the mountain my blessings and gifts of offering, as I gave thanks for my life, and the gift of my beautiful children in this life. I just kept thinking, if someone drops a cigarette, good-luck with that, so much overgrowth, it can be a danger to the critters and different wild animals that call it home, everything can change because we humans can be careless and damaging everywhere, in every way. I dont want them to expand, dont think it is a good idea to offer them 20 more years there because of the effects to the forest and every living thing that dwells there. It is a sacred place, we need to honor this place, and try to keep it as natural as possible, it is in my heart now, something I will cherish forever. I realize why they fight so hard!!
