When I was little, I remember my father being so sad that he couldnt work on the newer cars. They were different, he said, set up so that you couldnt just get in there and make it work. I kind of feel the same about computers. Sure, some stuff doesnt change. A transmission is still a transmission and a motherboard is a motherboard. But the stuff hooked in isnt the same, the joy of tinkering and building is gone. I dont know if that phase of my life is just over or if its that way for a lot of my geeky friends. My dad always kept a car running, and I can always keep a computer operational. But the fun in it has gone, its now like housework.
