When I was pregnant with Emily, I was living far from home. It was a hard time. Id never before been away from family, my then-husband was in the Navy, out to sea. I felt very alone. One Spring morning, when I was about 6 months along, I was driving down Virginia Beach Blvd, and this song came on the radio. I had to pull to the side of the road -- the tears came on so suddenly and so completely. So many things hit me at once -- missing home, being pregnant with the first grandbaby in the family, the music and memories of my childhood. That moment on the side of the road is a lasting image for me. Bittersweet, illuminating, poignant. Today, the baby I was then pregnant with, my precious EmilyRose, is coming home -- after being away from me for the first and longest time in 21 years. And this song, this sweet reminder, has been running through my head since last night.
