When I was running, I came across this severed Birdwing. I think - TopicsExpress

When I was running, I came across this severed Birdwing. I think it was significant that I had found it after mile one which means that I was warmed up and my brain was flowing with endorphins. The first thing that struck me was wow what an interesting technology out of place, that been severed from the bird, and how did that happen? Probably a lost fight with a cat. Then my brain move quickly into something else, with which I was familiar: pre-packaged curriculum or lesson plans, or any educational ideas that anyone comes across, out of context, and often foisted upon teachers who never asked for those technologies. Then I asked myself if someone just finds a severed wing on the ground, can they just stick it on their backs and suddenly can fly magically like a bird high up in the sky able to do everything that a bird does? I dont think so! Just like I began to wonder is there a parallel between that wing, and, using a curriculum or buying anything educational that is pre-packaged, and soaring with it. Then after mile number three, I came across this little plastic wristlet looking thing, and I saw it and I kept on running a few paces then I came back and picked it up. It became very interesting to me suddenly because it reminded me of another red around wrist like thing that I found in Stockholm which was a little kids bracelet. Then I began to see a comparison between the two, a false comparison. It made me realize that maybe that is how people who say oh I already do that when they see us doing a Quick-Write, or some kind of CoLab technology. When in fact they are two very different things sure theyre both connected, sure theyre both red and sure there about maybe the same circumference. But their purposes and who made them and how they are used altogether very different. The challenges to help this year, the doer, the user, to actually see the histories out of which the two artifacts emerged, and how they are used how they are similar how they are different, and to what purposes and for what outcomes. So no, you dont already do this already! Then, I remembered Ideas Island (ideasisland) and the boat row to and forth, and how clumsy a technology that is, whilst the beautiful swans glided elegantly across the glassy-top water, the gulls soared about, from island to island. It appears that what really matters is that we move about, we connect one thing to another, find failure or utility in the doing; whether the insight is immediate or not; the learning comes in the doing and in the examining the consequences of the doing.
