When I was seven I would wish upon a star every night for a piano. - TopicsExpress

When I was seven I would wish upon a star every night for a piano. Eventually, my parents purchased an old turn of the (20th) century upright. Today that piano will be going to a new home - and this is probably one of the most bittersweet moments I have experienced. That piano took me from John Thompson Birthday Party through high school piano competitions, playing Christmas carols and hymns, my favorite Pachabels Canon etc. and then I was able to watch my own children grow musically with that piano. It has been a wonderful piece to have. While we have lived in many different places throughout my life, that piano has been with me for almost 50 years. Today I joyfully pass it on to a family that will hopefully enjoy it just as much as I have, but also a little sorrowfully play my last pieces. When I was going through the music this morning that hadnt been packed I tended to choose songs from my childhood. I wish I could have played the theme from EXODUS for my brother - he would get so frustrated as I would play it again and again and again, but there were so many places that I could play LOUD - what kid doesnt think fast and loud are the way to play most pieces :) At any rate, I didnt have that piece or others that perhaps would have been fun on my last day with the piano, but I did get to end with Bring A Torch, Jeanette Isabella, a definite favorite from childhood. The irony of passing this instrument on through a good friend Jeanette is not lost. Goodbye dear piano.
