When I was small I roamed the 60 acre wood. My parents never had - TopicsExpress

When I was small I roamed the 60 acre wood. My parents never had to come looking for me. Although my brother Bob would. He wanted me to think he hated me. But I always heard him coming. The gears on his 10 speed were my warning. Lol. We could fish and hike all day. We ate Berries and nuts we picked in the woods. What the hell happened. Im not sure my grown children could survive in the woods and know what they can eat and what not to. My Steven wouldnt starve, but he carries a rifle and a bow. That doesnt count. Lol. Ok, it counts but, you know what I mean? In high school I was jealous of the city kids. I thought they had it better than I did. They could walk to school and didnt have to depend on parents for a ride to the games. Guess what, I was the lucky one. Im still fortunate. I took a walk back in that woods a few weeks ago. I had a few of them city kids with me. The whole way to the creek and back all I heard was ewe mud. Damn mosquitoes. Maybe those mosquitoes had enough of me when I was small. Idk. They didnt bother me. The dirt and mud are just a challenge. Its not like my a mom is gonna yell at me for getting dirty. No, my childhood wasnt perfect. But, Im no longer afraid or ashamed to revisit the farm. The demons are long gone. All thats left now is the beauty of nature and my nephew and his wife are raising a beautiful family there. He is carrying on the family tradition of go carts and motorcycles blazing a trails thru the woods. Its not quite the beaten path that we made when the Wilhites and us played back there, but its still there. Still ours. Still home.
