When I went to the river yesterday to feed the birds , as is my custom , I was surprised to find a multitude of different species all gathered together on the slipway . In the midst of them them was this huge and beautiful swan . As soon as I got my bread out he made it clear that although I was to be permitted to feed him but if I attempted to feed any of the other birds, he wasnt above roughing me up a bit . More than a bit in fact . However , I was not inclined to back down , so I stood my ground and in between feeding the bad tempered but elegant creature ( appearances are extremely deceptive) I managed to throw the odd morsel to a gull or two , and some of my favourite geese got a look in also , but for every piece of bread another bird got , I got at least one sharp peck . My coat and my bag got the worst of it but he got my fingers a few times . It ended up with him gathering himself up to his maximum height and hissing at me , while looking at me sideways . It was a weird experience , made a bit weirder by the fact that I kept popping-off pics of him while he was attacking me . But REALLY - talk about ungrateful . ♥
