When I worked in the emergency room at Brooke Army Medical Center, - TopicsExpress

When I worked in the emergency room at Brooke Army Medical Center, I helped the doctors and nurses provide medical care to patients of all kinds. I helped carry out doctors orders for everything imaginable in an emergency room for pediatric to geriatric, simple illness to cardiac arrest, minor injuries to major trauma. We worked as a cohesive team, day and night shifts, every hour of every day for every day of the year for four years. We gained mutual respect for one another and always had each others back. I was a young hard nosed Sergeant who put pressure on the young doctors and tried to keep the patient flow moving and get patient treated in a timely manner. As it turned out, I may have been to hard on the young residents, to the point that one such doctor resented me. However, one disgruntled officer did not say me from doing my diligent duty. I was surprised and honored when five senior doctors offered to support any plans I may have had to attend medical school. They indicated that they would collectively pay for my education. I did not accept their offer because I had so many reasons or excuses, such as no previous college, a young family, and about half way through my 20 year military career. Opportunity knocked and I didnt answer the door correctly. That is a decision I regret, but I also feel justified in. I did not have the knowledge, experience, aptitude, or discipline to undertake such a grandiose idea.
