When I worked retail I didnt enjoy working holidays, but I also - TopicsExpress

When I worked retail I didnt enjoy working holidays, but I also recognized that I chose that job. Usually my employer thought enough to schedule us for shorter shifts so we could enjoy more time at home. When I managed a retail outfit, I did the same for my staff. I also recognized that I wasnt the only one working. So were first responders, restaurants, gas station attendants, pastors, church staff, entertainers, journalists, camera operators, web designers, IT professionals, utility workers, nurses, doctors, janitors, assisted living caretakers, truckers, hotel staff, baristas, some pharmacists, artists, etc., etc., etc. Sometimes you have the opportunity to choose your profession by your good pleasure, and sometimes you have to choose it by necessity for a season. And sometimes you volunteer to work the holiday for the extra pay, or because your family wont be celebrating until the weekend. If youre upset about the stores being open, then dont shop today. If sales are poor, they wont do it again. If sales are fantastic, it will be because we walked through their doors. The retailers dont fuel the demand... We do. Im working some today because my clients need work done to help their businesses do well this weekend. I believe in their products or services, and I value their use of MY services. So we do what we gotta do. So this Thanksgiving Im thankful for Gods provision through hard work which allowed me to buy the gas I used to drive my wife and kids to visit family and to eat the feast that is being set on the table as I speak. And Ill patronize one of these places that are open later today just so I can give someone a bigger than usual tip. Thanks for indulging me while I opine on the matter. Happy Turkey Day!
