When Isaac Newton proclaimed, If I have seen further than others, - TopicsExpress

When Isaac Newton proclaimed, If I have seen further than others, it is by standing upon the shoulders of giants, he was referring to a handful of scientists who had come before him - Galileo Galilei, Nicholas Copernicus, Tycho Brahe and Johannes Kepler, born four hundred and forty three years ago today. Best known for his Laws of Planetary Motion, Kepler along with his contemporary, Copernicus, challenged the traditional, geocentric model (which posited a universe that rotated around the Earth) with a heliocentric model that placed the sun at the center of the known universe. The book, Keplers Witch, is a fascinating biography using the trial of Keplers mother to illustrate a time when people of science and curiosity were too often the victims of ignorance and religious dogma. Available now on the biography shelves of the Mission Valley Public Library!
