When Jacob Zuma made the infamous ANC will rule until the Second Coming comment, it hogged national headlines and became a subject of a protracted public discourse. In a country that is 80% Christian the reaction by religious bodies, politicians and the broader civil society as a whole was nothing short of hypocritical. Many of those who were irked by this seemingly innocuous comment accused Zuma of implying that the ANC will rule forever. What i find hypocritical is the fact that Christian pastors and priests preach to their congregations that the Second Coming is near, if that is the case surely the ruling party detractors should rejoice in the knowledge that the behemoth will not dominate the political landscape for too long.
