When Jesus cried, Father, forgive them, He was clearly suggesting - TopicsExpress

When Jesus cried, Father, forgive them, He was clearly suggesting that the act of crucifixion was an evil needing to be forgiven. It was not a good or holy thing being done to Christ, but an evil and an injustice. When we speak of it as though it were the work of God, we call good evil and evil good. Yes, God used the evil and violence of man to accomplish good, but the evil act itself does not become sanctified. This is one of the main problems I have with the penal substitution model. It forces us to call an evil which needed to be forgiven a holy act performed by Jesus Abba. The Cross is and always will be an evil which God spun on its head and used for good. But the act itself will never become holy, and can therefore never be attributed to God.
