When Jesus heard that John [the Baptist] had been put in prison, - TopicsExpress

When Jesus heard that John [the Baptist] had been put in prison, He returned to Galilee. Leaving Nazareth, He went and lived in Capernaum, which was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali--to fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah [700 years before!!]: Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the way to the sea, along the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles-- the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the SHADOW OF DEATH a light has dawned. {my caps} From that time on Jesus began to preach, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near. Matt 4:12-17 King David wrote in the 23rd Psalm about us walking through the valley of the shadow of death. That we should fear no evil when we walk through the valley of the shadow of death because God is with us...and His rod and His staff will comfort us. God constantly watches over us in this shadow of death...we have all been living in the shadow of death ever since the fall in the garden of Eden. But now, now that Jesus has arrived...LIGHT HAS DAWNED! Hope is born! The shadow of death remains (I think the mortality rate on the planet still hovers at about 100%) BUT NOW we have hope because of Christ! We will see this Christ--whom men crucify--stand and walk and build fires and fry fish and ascend into heaven itself! We do not worship some old faded poster of a god--we worship the Living God, the risen Savior, the resurrected King! {An Amen! belongs here!} And because He lives....we who believe will live also! Because He was raised, we who believe will be raised also! For believers, death is not something to be feared...we will move from the shadow of death to the life-giving light of the cross! We will move from the dark shadow of this earthly life into the light of eternal life! Giddy up! Lets stand in that light right now! We have seen a very Great Light! And His name is Jesus!
