Register online here or call 412-365-2985. Have you wanted to try raising pastured poultry? Maybe you are currently raising your own and would like to fine tune your operation? Or maybe you just want to make new connections with like minded people in your area that believe in sustainable agriculture? Join Justin and Maria Dreese at their home in Crawford County for a pastured poultry workshop. Guest speakers will include Jeff Mattocks, Vice President and Nutritionist for the Fetrell Company and Eli Reiff, the Poultry Man from Mifflinburg, PA. The workshop will provide a hands-on demonstration of poultry processing instructed by Eli. Jeff Mattocks will cover topics including nutrition and housing. For this workshop a feed trial is being conducted. Jeff will discuss the differences between feed rations and the affects nutrition has on animal health and taste. A blind taste test will be offered of the pastured poultry to include in the trial results. A picnic lunch will be offered. Please plan accordingly if dietary restrictions apply. Special thanks to the Mattocks Five, serving 5 locations (Meadville Farm & Garden, Albion Mill and 5M Feed Waterford, Titusville, and Warren locations) for providing feed for the trial. Justin and Maria have raised Jumbo Cornish Cross Rocks for the past few years. This year they will be processing approximately 110 birds. Half of the birds are sold locally and half are kept for their family. They also keep egg layers, and this year they are trying two breeds of dual purpose ducks – Khaki Campbell and White Pekin.
