When Laura Nyro was 17 she wrote and sang: And when I die And when Im gone Therell be one child born And a world to carry on Balance, weird and perfect balance, is the key. May we only be aware of it. Tiny things are sanity. I keep learning this and am thankful to have been raised in this, Carol A. Bowman, Mom…raised two boys with plenty of hardship and huge amounts of of teary eyed sunsets, today painted a cabin porch around a mushroom growing there. Last week felt like 3 months. It was ripe, so ripe with sad. Hospital sleep-over sad. impending sad. No-more-treatment-options sad. Death is what will come to all of us in the fullness of time. And somehow, totally randomly and perfectly, this past week was also ripe with the most beautiful and youthful. Henry, 15 days old, and we are full of hope. June and Esme a coupla months old and my heart aches with the beauty of them. I tear with the beauty of them, and their beautiful parents. I am the most grateful for neighbors who visit me, and friends who frequent the store…My heart is full at a time when it is emptying…a 6 year old ran to the shop to show me crinoids and feathers. his 2 year old brother exclaimed Rock. Feather. Daddy. Rock! There were hours of sit-on-the-steps time. Sun, shining just enough to satisfy our craving for it while we caught up. I am both lost in my head, lost in the inevitable and lost in the hopes and lives and loves that are so current and fresh. Life is good, we get what we need. I hope we all see that. I hope we all slow down, sit still (for only one minute to see it). And when I die And when Im gone Therell be one child born And a world to carry on WE ARE EPHEMERAL. In the fullness of time all of us will move forward. And in the meantime, we have LIFE. We have babies, and children, and plants and honey bees and a place. Our place. I am more thankful than I can ever express. To all of those who show up on the the steps of the 1875 Rauskaup building to share their lives with me, I am most thankful. To those who listen to my mumblings, I am thankful. You strengthen me. You fill my heart. - kristofer
