When Mac was 4 y/o knew since he was 2 y/o knew he needed, yes needed to go to Smash, a wonderful school founded in the 70s by Tom Hayden of the Chicago 7, Jane Fonda, hmmm & a wonderful Methodist Pastor Jim Cohn.. Smash was originally set up to focus on the strengths and the spirit of each child w/the goal really to be if you make learning interesting & really involve the students w/curriculum etc., you will succeed in educating all kids. Summer went to Smash first in 1987 as Sum & I moved to Santa Monica in 1986 & right away I knew the schools were too big, too oh my actually so God sent Smash our way for Sum, yes! Rider & Ocean my grandchildren both attend/attended Smash too so clearly it has been a gift to more than 1 generation in our family.. I wrote all the above for this reason. When Mac was 4 finally it was time for the lottery @ Smash in 1995. I am smirking as I write this next part which relates to this post I am commenting on now.. At Smash each year they picked 4 white kids, 4 black, 4 Hispanic, 4 Asian & 4 other, of some demographic I am unsure of. They did this for many reasons I am sure but all I know is this, it was down to the last white boy choice & Macs name was not chosen yet in the lottery, I was unaware as Mac & I were visiting Grandma & Grandpa in Tennessee, uh huh where I am right now almost 25 yrs later... I then recd a call from Jim the principal @ Smash way back in 1995 & he said, Macs in. He was last boy chosen. Which I then said, This will be one of the only times in life being a white, male the odds were against him.. Jim & I laughed and had Mac lived I know with 100% certainty that never would Mac cared about skin color and I never told Mac that story for many reasons as my guy did not need to know that one.. Today I feel different, its a tad messed up guys & we need to fix this now.. Ferguson is obviously all wrong as it is w/ all the bull fake white racist allegations and the victim crap is more a reflection of a mass of people whom just want to blame others for where they are in life. Hmmmmm, just a tad sad, huh??!!
