When Mike and I got married, I didnt change my name. Everyone knew - TopicsExpress

When Mike and I got married, I didnt change my name. Everyone knew I was Mrs. Jeffcoat, but my bank accounts, identification and any other legal items, bore the name I had been known by for over 20 years. That name was easy for everyone to understand, spell and get correct. Today, I officially changed important documents and ID to reflect my married name: Jeffcoat. I dont want Jayden to ever ask me why my last name isnt the same as his and his Dads. In doing so, I discovered two things: 1) I was holding on to past baggage by keeping that name. 2) It was important to Mike that I take his name when we married. Both things dont make me proud to not have done it sooner. But I am proud to have my little family and as such, a name is symbolic membership: Our little family that God put together. Very awe struck to think that the universe aligned perfectly to bring all three of us together to grow in love. The bad part now is that I have joined that club where everyone thinks Jeff is my first name and Coat is my last. Or as my friends say, Mrs. Mikecoat. Happy Wednesday!
