When Muslims are collectively depicted as terrorists or extremists, its a hell of a lot easier to look the other way when they are spied on, their civil rights are violated, or when their babies are dying. I often wonder if I were to be amongst the victims in what would be characterized as a terrorist event, would I be depicted as someone who attempted to stop the incident, simply a victim, or from among the perpetrators? I wonder what those who know me, specifically my non-Muslim friends, would think. This thought crosses my mind each time I get on a plane ...
