When My servants ask thee concerning Me, I am indeed close (to them): I listen to the prayer of every suppliant when he called on me: Let them also, with a will, Listen to My call, and believe in Me: That they may walk in the right way”. (Al-Baqara-2: 186) Religion is the greatest source of guidance and fortification for all humanity. Every religion of this world teaches its followers to prostrate in front of their Creator by acting upon His commands and teachings. Our religion Islam is a complete code of life for all mankind throwing light on each and every aspect of our lives. It not only guides us towards right path but also encourages us to supplicate in front of Almighty Allah for all our desires and needs because in Islam only Allah Almighty possesses the ultimate power to accept all our prayers – He is the sole Creator and all powers and might belong to Him alone. Therefore, believers are advised, encouraged and ordered again and again to make dua to Allah Almighty for everything thing and at any time, not at times of need only, in order to get their fulfill desires and dreams fulfilled The literal meaning of the word dua is “To call upon”. In Islam dua is referred to as an act of asking Allah about one’s needs with praise, hope, and thanksgiving. In English dua is also termed as “Prayer”. Allah Almighty through His beloved Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (P.B.U.H) and the Noble Quran, has taught the believers to make dua regularly because it is an important part of our faith. Dua is recognized as a powerful weapon for Muslims because it possesses the strength to enhance our blessings and helps in removing our pain and affliction. Dua is considered as a higher form of worship that brings a person closer to his Ultimate Protector and Sustainer Allah Almighty by keeping him in constant touch with Him. It is a staunch belief of Muslims that nothing is beyond the reach and power of Almighty Allah as He is the most generous. That’s why calling Allah for help and asking Him in the hour of need is highly recommended in Islam as this act of supplication can even change our predestined fate. Dua holds a very eminent place in Islam as our Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) has stressed upon its importance at various places by referring to it as a potent weapon which can protect us from our enemy and increase our livelihood. It is indeed a shield of believer that can open the doors of heaven and can also save us from being a prey to certain calamities. Hence, making dua to Allah is considered a commendable worship in Islam. Dua is a form of prayer that does not need any fixed time or any specific place to be observed. Therefore, one should always make dua for oneself, his/her family and others in faith by having full trust on Allah Almighty’s help and guidance. Belief in Allah Almighty is what inspires us to make dua. It is a staircase that makes us near to our ultimate Creator. It’s the fuel that helps us drive safely on the road of this worldly life. Dua, in fact, is a blessing for us in the matters of not only this world but also of the Hereafter!
