When Ofra Haza tried to expand into the Western market (USA) she - TopicsExpress

When Ofra Haza tried to expand into the Western market (USA) she faced the problem of being too Middle Eastern sounding. She knew Americans, many of which had never heard her traditional music, would have no interest in her. So she put together a bunch of songs that she knew America would embrace, or at least appreciate to some extent. but advertising herself to the US was extremely difficult. Until, that is, she had a bright idea. She looked for the most popular television program at the time and it was by far The Johnny Carson Show. She managed to get a spot on the show and suddenly she was a hit and her music sold faster than the cassettes and CDs could be manufactured. She released another album very quickly that really hit the sweet spot - powerful, modern, and totally in tune with the 90s dance scene. I cannot find the Johnny Carson episode she was on, but I do remember this was the song she sang that threw her into instant stardom in our country.
